On May 6, 2011, come celebrate the 40 year career of Chief Michael Metcalf and maybe save a child’s life.
It's a tragic fact. In Canada, a child dies every 8 hours as a result of an unintentional or preventable injury. Recent statistics reveal that these incidents are the leading cause of death and disability among today’s school-aged children.
Since 1994, the dedicated staff at the Peel Children’s Safety Village have taught students in grades one, three and five about the importance of staying safe while at home, at school and at play. In 2010, over 15,000 children went home after visiting the Village to share important safety tips and stories with their families. But we can – and need to do more. As our Region has grown, less than one-quarter of eligible children are able to attend!
On Friday, May 6, 2011, the Peel Children’s Safety Village will host the “Keep Kids Safe” dinner at the Pearson Convention Centre, 2638 Steeles Ave E., Brampton. The dinner will raise much needed funds for a long overdue expansion of the Safety Village facility located in Brampton.
Built entirely through donations, the Safety Village operates, in collaboration with the Peel Regional Police and the two school boards, as a non-profit centre that provides valuable life saving lessons at no cost to our children. It can only do so because of the continuing generous contributions from our community. We are asking you to dig deep one more time because the need is so great and the cause is so important.
The focal point of the evening is to pay tribute to Peel Regional Police Chief H. Mike Metcalf's 40-year career as a police officer and his significant contributions to the safety of our region. Chief Metcalf has long been an advocate for children and continues to be a local champion, working to provide a safe and positive community.
Your support and participation are vital in making this event a success. All net proceeds will go directly towards the construction of an addition to the Peel Children’s Safety Village building. By expanding this wonderful facility, we can help even more children benefit from its extraordinary programs.
